手机 (shǒujī) means “mobile phone”. It is an HSK 2 word, so it is one of the words learners meet early.
Say it shǒujī: shǒu with a 3rd tone, then jī with a 1st tone. Press Listen at the top of this page to hear it, or Slowly to hear each tone clearly.
In Traditional characters, used in Taiwan and Hong Kong, 手机 is written 手機. The pronunciation is the same.
Use 部 (bù) or 台 (tái). For example, one mobile phone is 一部手机 (yí bù shǒujī).
Add a Chinese (Simplified) pinyin keyboard to your phone or computer, type shouji with no tone marks or spaces, then choose 手机 from the suggestions. Typing shouji into this dictionary’s search box finds it too.
手机 is an HSK 2 word in the HSK 2.0 word lists.
